Sikinos is an island in the Southern Cyclades, between Ios and Folegandros, and a great place to go if you’re looking for a non-touristy, quiet island where you can truly relax…there are no distractions, except the sheer beauty of the place.  The island does not even have a single taxi (they apparently are trying to get one – and managed to get close to approval by the Ministry of Transportation this year, but their request was denied…maybe next year!).  In any case, the bus is timely and takes you to all the places you want to go.  The island has only 6 restaurants and 4 beaches (additional beaches are accessible via boat), including the (surprisingly) nice beach next to the port in Alopronia.

The island is known for their wine…and the bus takes you to the Manalis winery which should not be missed as it’s a beautiful place to view the sunset.  They also have a charming restaurant there.   The ‘town’ is made up of two areas – Kastro and Chorio.  Kastro is where the rest of the island’s bars and restaurants are and Chorio is purely residential.  We almost skipped Chorio (the many steps from the main road looked a bit daunting in the July heat) but I must have taken 100 photos there alone…so if you go, don’t miss a walk around Chorio.  It’s actually considered to be THE most authentic Cycladic village of all….
